Robin’s – Cambria, CA

We took the long way down to LA this past holiday season, stopping along the way at a few different locations. Since one of the detours was to Hearst Castle, we stopped for lunch at Robin’s ┬áin Cambria.
It was a gorgeous December day, so we decided to sit on the glass enclosed patio. The patio was cheerful and sunny; a sharp contrast to the interior dining room which felt a little cramped and dark. We ordered everything to share.
Panko Crusted Calamari with Asian Slaw and Samba Aioli – Calamari was expertly fried and felt very fresh. It definitely wasn’t rubbery like some other places. The Asian slaw was also fresh, crisp and had a great zip to the dressing.
Potato Leek Soup – Good creamy soup, well executed, but nothing particularly special.
Grilled Heart of Romaine Salad with creamy Maytag Blue Cheese dressing – I picked this because I wanted to try a warm salad. The salad definitely didn’t disappoint. The sheer simplicity of the dish surprised me. The romaine was warm without being wilted or soggy. The blue cheese dressing provided a good counterpoint to the lettuce’s sweetness.
Avocado Croissant Melt – Something else that caught my eye on the menu. All of the ingredients were extremely fresh and flavorful. Fantastic sandwich.
Halibut Fish Taco – The fish tacos were a little messy to eat but they were definitely worth it. The fish was very well seasoned and cooked. The accompanying sides were quite tasty as well. There was a jicama slaw that I’d love to get the recipe for.
All in all, Robin’s was a great find. I would definitely go back there for a meal if I ever found myself in Cambria again.
